Creation Litany
The sections spoken by the leader are in regular text, and the sections spoken by the
congregation are printed in bold text.
L: Triune Creator, we come to you as your children.
C: Lord, we praise you for revealing yourself to us our Maker, Redeemer and
Sustainer.
L: We praise you for the beauty of beautiful creation.
C: We praise you for making a home for humanity in creation.
L: We remember that you instructed Adam and Eve to have children who would
live over the whole earth. We remember how our ancestors rebelled and built the
tower of Babel to try and stay in one place with one language and one culture.
C: We thank you for initiating the diversity of human cultures by refusing to allow
your image to be limited to one language and one culture.
L: We thank you for inhabiting the earth. We praise you for nurturing people into
Indigenous nations in Europe, Africa, Asia, South America and North America. 1
C: Help us to recognize how Indigenous Peoples and their respective territories
are part of your plan for your creation.
L: Creator, we praise you for coming as the Christ Child to redeem your
creation. 2
C: Lord Jesus, we praise you for sacrificing your life so that we may have new life
in this world and everlasting life in the world to come. 3
L: Lord, we remember that you commissioned us to proclaim your Good News to
all the peoples of the world. 4
C: May your Holy Spirit help us to faithfully share your Good News of hope and
salvation.
L: Lord, we confess that too often, rather than encouraging people to be like you,
we teach and sometimes force people to be like us.
C: Lord, help us to remember that you are active in the history of the nations of
the world.
L: Creator, we thank you for those prophets who have defended the rights of
people to follow your Son in their own language and their own culture.
C: Help us to remember that you love all of your children.
L: Creator, we thank you for the leaders in our churches who advocate the
establishment of ministries, supporting Indigenous people and encouraging Indigenous
People to claim, develop, use and celebrate their cultural gifts.
C: Lord, help us to encourage Indigenous people to claim, develop and to use the
gifts that you have given to them.
L: Creator, bless ministries with leaders, staff and volunteers who truly bless,
support and walk alongside Indigenous people.
C: Lord, help us to support Indigenous ministries with our prayers, interest,
donations, and other gifts.
