1. What do you notice in this work of art?
2. “Happy hour” refers to a time before dinner when alcohol is sold at a reduced price in a pub or a bar. Besides happiness, what are other reasons people drink alcoholic beverages?
3. Choose a or b below:
a. The Dalai Lama once said, “The basic thing is that everyone wants happiness, no one wants suffering. And happiness mainly comes from our own attitude, rather than from external factors.” How does this thought relate to, or differ from, finding happiness in alcohol?
b. The Bible, in Psalm 104, says that God brings “wine which makes man’s heart glad.” Yet in Proverbs 23, the author warns against getting drunk, “Do not gaze at wine when it is red, when it sparkles in the cup, when it goes down smoothly! In the end, it bites like a snake and poisons like a viper.” How is alcohol portrayed in each of these quotes?
4. Abbasi was employed by the Iranian Shah Abbas I. It is likely the youth was a wine taster for the Shah. Draw a picture or find a digital image showing where you look for true happiness.
