To encourage people to keep going with what God has called them to do while they are waiting for Jesus to return.
In an All Age Worship service the script could be preceded by reading Mark 13:32-37, followed by teaching that one day Jesus has said that He will return. While we wait for that day, Jesus wants us to serve Him, persevering faithfully.
The script could be followed by praying for strength for people to keep going with the ministries that God has called them to.
Second coming of Jesus, perseverance, serving, Advent, faithfulness.

One day the master called his 4 servants together and said:

Mower:
Odd job:
Master:
I need to go away for a while as I have some important business to see to. I am trusting you to keep looking after my house and garden - and when I return we will have a big party. Be ready for that day whenever it comes.
Of course Master I will keep the kitchen spick and span. I will have the larder well stocked up for your return with your favourite pies and pastries
There will not be a speck of dust in the house when you come back. I shall make sure that the house is spotless
I will keep the grass cut and the borders weeded so the garden will look beautiful on the day you return.
And I will make sure everything is kept in good working order
Wonderful..... I will miss you all.....see you soon. Goodbye
(Master exits down the church)
Narrator:
The first few weeks after the master left the servants were true to their word. Spoons cooked and washed up and kept the kitchen spotless
(Spoons mimes appropriately)
Duster spring cleaned the whole house from top to bottom. There was not a speck of dust anywhere.
(Duster mimes appropriately)
Mower cut the grass, weeded the borders, pruned the roses, trimmed the hedges and generally gave the garden a good overhaul.
(Mower mimes appropriately)
And Odd job changed lightbulbs, fixed a leaking tap, painted the outside of the house and fixed a hole in the roof.
(Odd job mimes appropriately)
After a few weeks Duster started to get fed up. She said to the other servants:
I don’t think that the master is ever going to come back. I’m fed up with keeping this house clean. I think that I deserve a rest.
So she put her duster down and picked up the remote control of the TV and relaxed - watching morning TV, afternoon TV and evening TV.
Duster: Narrator:
(Duster picks up a TV remote control, sits on a chair and pretends to watch TV)
After a couple more days Mower came in from the garden and said:
Mower: Keeping the garden tidy is such hard work. I’ve got blisters all over my hands. Life isn’t just about hard work......I want a good time.
Narrator: So he put his gardening tools down, put on some party clothes and went out to parties, morning, noon and night.
(Mower puts on a party top and picks up a wine glass and exits)

After a couple more days Odd job stormed into the house and said:
3
Odd job: I’m fed up with this job. This master of ours has been gone away for months now. I don’t think he’ll ever come back. I’m going to find another job.
Narrator: So he put his tools down, packed his bags and left the master’s house to go and find himself another job.
(Odd Job picks up a suitcase and exits)
Spoons:
Narrator:
A few days later Spoons feeling rather sorry for herself said:
It’s not fair. I seem to be the only one doing any work round here. Duster spends all day watching TV, Mower is having all the fun at parties, and I hear that Odd Job has managed to get himself a job working fewer hours. I’m fed up....I know what I need ......and that’s a good shopping trip.
So Spoons took off her apron, put down her rolling pin and tea towel and headed for the shops.
(Spoons picks up a shopping bag and exits)
A couple of weeks later the telephone rang.
Duster picked it up as she was watching “Countdown” on the telly. (Play “Countdown” music)
She went very pale for on the other end of the telephone was the master telling her that he would be arriving home in a few minutes.
Duster put the ‘phone down and stood up in a daze. As she looked around her, she noticed the awful tip she was living in - dirty plates and rubbish everywhere as well as half an inch of dust on every surface. It would take her hours to clear up this mess.
As she looked out the window she could see that the grass was at least a foot tall and nettles and thistles had completely taken over the flower borders.
She knew that there was nothing to eat in the larder since Spoons had been on her shopping trips.
None of the lights in the house worked as the fuses had all blown.
The master would be back in a couple of minutes expecting to be able to hold a party. PAUSE
Jesus said: “Therefore keep watch because you do not know when the owner of the house will come back”
(Exit Narrator and Duster)
