Drama Script (DRA021) Completely clean clothes © Jane Hulme 2015 Aim of Script: Use of Script: Main themes: Biblical references: Cast: Props: (DRA021) To show that we need to be clothed in Jesus’s righteousness if we want to be in relationship with Father God. In an All Age Worship service the script could be preceded by teaching about the holiness of God and how we cannot come close to Him unless we are completely sinless. The script could be followed by teaching about the gift of righteousness that Jesus offers us. At the cross Jesus takes our “dirty clothes of sin” and gives us his “clean clothes of righteousness” to wear – we receive this gift by faith alone. Now we can come close to Father God. Holiness of God, Sin, Righteousness by faith Romans 3:9-26, Galatians 3:27 Narrator, Butler, Reggie Murky, Mandy Works, Bill Cleanup, Faith Clipboard for butler, Reggie, Mandy, Bill and Faith all wear white t-shirts.  Reggie has two small post-it notes on his back – one saying, “Lying” and the other saying “Violent temper”  Mandy has a number of post-it notes on her front and back – saying things like: “Greed,” “Cheat,” “Gossip,” Foul language,” “Adultery,” “Blasphemy.” Over the post-it notes on the front of her t-shirt are some larger colourful post-its which partly cover the sin post-its. They say things like: “Mowed neighbour’s lawn,” “Visited granny in hospital,” etc  Bill has a number of post-it notes on his front and back – saying things like: “Slander,” “Rage,” “Lies,” “Deceitful,” “Drunk driving”  Faith has a number of post-it notes on her front and back – saying things like: “Criticism,” “Coveting,” “Argumentative,” “Lazy” DRAMA: “COMPLETELY CLEAN CLOTHES” ........................................................................................................................ Narrator: The Queen was having a large banquet, and invitations were sent throughout the land inviting people to come to it. The only condition for entrance to the banquet was that completely clean clothes were to be worn. Anyone wearing clothes that weren’t completely clean would not be admitted to the feast. On the reply slip at the bottom of the invitation, the Queen offered to provide completely clean clothes for anyone who needed them. The big day arrived and soon people were queuing up outside the gates of the palace waiting to go in and enjoy the banquet. (Enter Butler who stands at the front of the church – side on – by an imaginary gate. Enter three “sinners” who stand in a line) © Jane Hulme 2015 2 Reggie: Mandy: Faith: Butler: I wonder what the food will be like.... I hope it includes smoked salmon, and chocolate gateau..... There’s bound to be loads of champagne..... Come along now everyone. The gates are open. One at a time please. (Reggie walks forward and stands in front of the Butler) Butler: Reggie: Butler: Reggie: Butler: Reggie: Butler: Name Reggie Murky Sir (Looks at list of names on his clipboard) Ah yes....here we are.....Reggie Murky (Looks Reggie over, then turns him round) I’m sorry but you can’t come in. Your clothes are not completely clean as the invitation stated that they had to be. Oh come off it...look at this (pointing at front of t-shirt). This looks pretty clean to me. I am afraid that there are two dirty marks on your back. Your clothes are not completely clean. This is ridiculous. Two dirty marks on my back. Look at him (pointing at Bill) .....he’s got much bigger dirty marks on his clothes than I have. I am sorry sir, but the Queen’s orders are that only those who are wearing completely clean clothes are allowed entrance to her banquet. Unfortunately you didn’t take up the Queen’s offer of completely clean clothes when you replied to her invitation. (Reggie walks off disconsolately. Mandy walks forward and stands in front of the Butler) Butler: Mandy: Butler: Mandy: Butler: Mandy: Name Mandy Works Sir (Looks at list of names on his clipboard) Ah yes....here we are.....Mandy Works (Looks Mandy over, then turns her round) I’m sorry but you can’t come in. Your clothes are not completely clean as the invitation stated that they had to be. Look.... I know that there are a few dirty marks, but can’t you see the beautiful ways in which I have covered over those marks? Look at this one, “Mowed neighbour’s lawn”. Do you realise that I did that for fifteen years? That is very kind of you, but I am sorry that it doesn’t change the fact that your clothes are not completely clean. Unfortunately you didn’t take up the Queen’s offer of completely clean clothes when you replied to her invitation. I don’t believe it. I thought I could cover over those dirty marks with some good marks. (Mandy walks off disconsolately. Bill walks forward and stands in front of the Butler) © Jane Hulme 2015 3 Butler: Bill: Butler: Bill: Butler: Bill: Name Bill Cleanup Sir (Looks at list of names on his clipboard) Ah yes....here we are.....Bill Cleanup (Looks Bill over, then turns him round) I’m sorry but you can’t come in. Your clothes are not completely clean as the invitation stated that they had to be. I know sir..... I have tried and tried to clean them....but the dirty marks are really stubborn....they just won’t go. I’ve tried Persil, Ariel, Vanish, stain- devils, oxy-wash, even bleach, but they won’t come out. I’m very sorry but you can’t come in. Unfortunately you didn’t take up the Queen’s offer of completely clean clothes when you replied to her invitation. I knew it, I just knew it. She didn’t really want me. (Bill walks off disconsolately. Faith walks forward and stands in front of the Butler) Butler: Faith: Butler: Faith: Name Faith Sir (Looks at list of names on his clipboard) Ah yes....here we are.....Faith. You replied wisely to the Queen’s invitation. I have some completely clean clothes that the Queen has provided for you over here with your name on. (Hands Faith a completely clean white t-shirt to put on) If you would like to come this way with me and I will show you where you can take off your dirty clothes and put these clean ones on. You will then be very welcome to join the Queen at her banquet. Thank you very much. I am so looking forward to seeing Her majesty. (Exit Butler and Faith) © Jane Hulme 2015 4
