Short Talk (SHT046) Will we allow Jesus into every room of our house? © Jane Hulme 2015 SHORT TALK: “WILL WE ALLOW JESUS INTO EVERY ROOM OF OUR HOUSE?” (SHT046) Aim of Short talk: Main themes: Biblical references: Props: To encourage people to allow Jesus to reign over every part of their lives. Surrender Romans 12:1-2, Matthew 6:10, Revelation 3:20, Philippians 4:8, 1Corinthians 6:19-20, 10:31 Doll’s house or a projected house with a room plan that you can show. ........................................................................................................................ When we become a Christian God comes to live inside our hearts, through His Holy Spirit, to be with us forever. I want you to imagine this morning that your heart is like this house here, (Point to doll’s house or projected house on screen)  with lots of different rooms in it. If we are really going to grow as followers of Jesus, we need to allow His Spirit to come into every room in our heart.  Shall we have a look at some of those rooms now? Let’s begin with the lounge......  This is the room where we often relax isn’t it?  Perhaps we watch television and films,  Or listen to music. Do you let Jesus decide which television programmes and films are helpful for you to watch together?  What about the music you listen to?  Do you let Jesus help you work out what is helpful for you to listen to?  If we ask Jesus to come and help us choose the right things to watch and listen to, He will. The lounge is also the place where we might spend time with friends.  Does our conversation with our friends put a smile on God’s face or does it make him sad? Let’s move into the kitchen....  This is the room where we think about caring for our bodies.  You know it matters to Jesus that we look after the body that He has given us. Are we eating the right foods to stay healthy?  Are we doing some exercise?  How about the adults.....are you being careful how much you drink? © Jane Hulme 2015 2 Let’s move on into the study.....  This is the room where we think about our work, wherever or whatever that is. Do we allow Jesus to go to school or work with us or do we leave him at home?  Are we working as hard as we can or are we lazy?  What about the people we spend time with at school and at work?  How do we treat them? Do we treat them in the way that Jesus wants us to? Let’s move into the bathroom.  This is the room where we think about our self-image.....  Are we allowing Jesus to tell us who we really are..... beautiful children of God,  or are we more worried about what other people think of us? Let’s move into the bedroom.  This is the place where we rest and sleep and perhaps think. What do we choose to think about most of the time?  Are we choosing to allow Jesus to fill our thoughts with what is good, pure, and true,  or are we choosing to fill our thoughts with bad things? And finally we get to the attic.....  That is where we hide the stuff that we don’t think we’ll use again,  or we only use occasionally. What might we be hiding from Jesus?  Are there parts of our lives where we don’t want to allow Him in?  Isn’t it time to allow Him in? Can I encourage you to allow Jesus into every part of your life.....  Allow Him to take control of every room in the house of your heart. Let’s pray: Thank you Lord Jesus that you wait for us to invite you into every room of our hearts. This morning we ask that you would help us open up every door in our hearts and allow you in. For the glory of your name. Amen. © Jane Hulme 2015 3
