Halloween Candy
Message: Jesus paid the price
Scripture: Romans 6:23 “The gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.”
(KJV)
Did you know that Halloween is this week? Are you going to dress up?
Well, I’ve heard about this Halloween thing. I heard that the kids dress up and go around
to all the houses in the neighborhood trick-or-treating, hoping to get candy! And you
know what amazes me? People actually give it to them! For free! How about that? Free
candy!
I even thought about going trick-or-treating myself. I could dress in my Superman shirt.
Then I could get some free candy.
But, you know, that candy is not really free. It may be free to you, but the people in those
houses had to go to the store and pay for it. So it wasn’t free to them. They paid for it so
that you could have it for free.
Well, it’s nice to get free candy, but God gives us something a lot better than candy. Let
me read you Romans 6:23. It says, “The gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ
our Lord.” (KJV) He gives us eternal life. He gives it to us for free; but just like that
candy, someone had to pay for it. And that someone was Jesus. When he died on the
cross he paid the price for our sins so that we could have eternal life. That’s much better
than candy!
Let’s pray. Father God, thank you for your son, Jesus. Thank you that he paid the price
for our sins so that we could be forgiven and receive the gift of eternal life. We pray in
his holy name. Amen.
