KC Weekly: Sermon on the Mount

Jesus taught us how to love God and love people.

Have someone read Matthew 5:43-48 (hint: bonus points for letting a kid read!)

Talk About It: It’s easy for us to show love to people who show love to us and to be unkind to those who treat us unkindly. But Jesus says we’re to be different – we’re to show love even to those who are unkind to us. Is there someone who’s been mean or unkind to you? Pray for them right now – pray for good things for them. Oh – and if you’ve been unkind to someone else, how might you apologize and make things right?

Now read Matthew 6:25-28

Talk About It: Jesus says not to worry and he told us to think about how God takes care of the birds and flowers. Is there anything that’s causing you to feel worried? Tell it to Jesus and ask for his help. Take turns sharing and praying for each other.

Bonus: Check out God’s Story: Sermon on the Mount. What stands out to you?

Even corrupt tax collectors do that much. 47 If you are kind only to your friends, how are you different from anyone else? Even pagans do that. 48 But you are to be perfect, even as your Father in heaven is perfect.

25 “That is why I tell you not to worry about everyday life—whether you have enough food and drink, or enough clothes to wear. Isn’t life more than food, and your body more than clothing? 26 Look at the birds. They don’t plant or harvest or store food in barns, for your heavenly Father feeds them. And aren’t you far more valuable to him than they are? 27 Can all your worries add a single moment to your life?28 “And why worry about your clothing? Look at the lilies of the field and how they grow. They don’t work or make their clothing...
