Doomsday Survivalist Donates Stockpile of Food to Puerto Rico Crisis

A New Jersey man who spent decades stockpiling rations and resources for an eventual "doomsday" recently donated almost all of it to the Puerto Rico crisis. 74-year-old Joseph Badame and his wife had spent decades putting together all the typical pieces of a doomsday hideout-a bomb shelter, extra kitchens, bathrooms, and survivalist books. The most impressive part, however, was the food that the Badames had gathered over the years. The shelter contained 80 barrels of food, which reportedly could sustain 84 people for up to four months. However, times had been tough for the Badames for quite a while when Joseph met a Puerto Rican couple raising money for the country's disaster relief recently. His wife had been sick for years, and her care consumed all of their time and resources until she eventually passed, leaving him broke and exhausted. The bank even foreclosed on his property, which is when he met the couple and decided he had a new purpose in life. "Phyliss and I prepared all this for one group of people and it turns out it's going to help another group of people," he said. "That's wonderful."

Potential Preaching Angles: As believers, we are commanded to love those around us by living sacrificially. In some scenarios, that might mean letting go of the resources we've spent a lifetime accumulating.
