Author: Bible. Low German. Luther. 1533

Image Title: Noah’s Ark and the Flood

Scripture Reference:

Description: With the ark floating safely above those destroyed in the flood, a dove signals that the water is receding by bringing back an olive branch. On the ark is “DKN 1539,” This is an abbreviation for Der Kaste Noe, the ark of Noah. The date 1539 likely means this woodcut was used in an earlier 1539 Bible. This and other woodcuts in this 1533 Bible are the work of the German artist, Erhard Altdorfer (d. 1561).
