Litany: Psalm 124

Here is a litany based on Psalm 124, one of the suggested scripture readings for August 21, 2011 (the tenth Sunday after Pentecost).

Litany
(based on Psalm 124)

What if God had not been on our side
when everyone else was against us?

If God hadn’t been for us
we would have been swallowed alive by their burning anger;
we would have been swept away by a flood of rage and violence,
and drowned in the raging waters of their fury.

Blessed be our God,
who did not abandon us to our fate;
who did not leave us defenseless before our attackers,
as helpless as a rabbit surrounded by hungry wolves.
Instead, we were able to escape
like a bird from a hunger’s trap!

Our help is in the name of the Lord our God,
who made heaven and earth!
