I Long (Baptized into Belovedness)

Christ was called ‘Beloved’ at his baptism. When we are baptized in the name of Christ, we also enter into his 'Belovedness’ - a great reason to celebrate baptism!

 I LONG …

“And a voice came from heaven, ‘You are my Son, the Beloved; with you I am well pleased.’” ―Mark:1:11

i long
to dance
in the Spirit
just like a child
in the rain
on a summer’s day;

i long
to slurp up
the living waters
the way my dog
empties his bowl
after a long walk;

i long
to stand
waist deep
in the baptismal bowl
and feel
your tears of grace
wash over me;

i long
to hear
you call me
'Beloved’
and know,
without any doubt,
that is my name …
i long

Prayer-Poem: “I Long” by Thom Shuman

The phrase ‘Baptized into Belovedness’ is my own, which I will write about in a later blog post.
