More Benedictions for Ascension Day

Here are a few more scriptural benedictions suitable for Ascension Day (June 2, 2011) or Ascension Sunday (June 5, 2011).  Feel free to revise them to suit your situation.

Ascension: Benediction 5

(based on Ephesians 1:17-18)

As you go from here into the coming week,

may God open your mind to His presence,

so that you may truly come to know Him;

may He open the eyes of your heart

so that you can experience the hope he offers

to all who follow Him;

and may you come to understand

the full extent of God’s power at work in your life—

the very same power that raised Jesus Christ from the dead,

and seated him at the right hand of God.

Ascension: Benediction 6

(based on Ephesians 1:19-21)

As you go from here, remember this:

The same power that raised Jesus Christ from the dead

and placed all things under his authority—

this same power is at work within you

and in all who believe.

Praise God!

Ascension: Benediction 7

(based on Acts 1)

People of God,

let’s not just stand here, gazing into heaven

as the disciples did after they saw Jesus leave.

Instead, let’s take up the mission Jesus left us:

to be his witnesses,

to tell everyone we meet who Jesus is,

and how he has changed us.

And may the grace of God,

the love of Jesus Christ,

and the presence of the Holy Spirit

go with us all.

Amen.

Ascension: Benediction 8

(based on Hebrews 12:1-2)

As we go from here, remember this:

as Christians, we are not alone.

We are surrounded by all the believers who have gone before,

an enormous cloud of witnesses.

So let’s throw off any extra baggage,

let’s get rid of the sin that slows us down.

And let’s fix our eyes on the example of Jesus Christ,

the pioneer and perfecter of our faith.

He endured the shame and agony of the cross

for the sake of the joy that lay ahead,

and now he is seated at the right hand of God.

Ascension: Benediction 9

(based on Ephesians 1:17-19, Common English Bible)

May the God of our Lord Jesus Christ,

the Father of glory,

give you a spirit of wisdom and revelation

that makes God known to you.

May the eyes of your heart have enough light to see

what is the hope of God’s call,

what is the richness of God’s glorious inheritance among believers,

and what is the overwhelming greatness of God’s power

that is working among us believers!

Go with God!
